Coal Exports from Russia Hit New Records
May 2026 marked a significant milestone for Russian coal exports, as the figures reveal an impressive surge in shipments to the East. According to RZD, 10.1 million tons of coal were sent for export, reflecting a 4.9% increase from May 2025. This growth showcases a substantial upward trend, with a staggering 43.3% boost compared to May 2016 and nearly double the amount shipped in May 2011.
When factoring in domestic transports on the BAM and Trans-Siberian routes, the total coal dispatch reached 13.2 million tons, also breaking records for the month. This underscores the integral role of internal logistics in enhancing export efficiency, emphasizing the significance of eastern routes for resource transportation.
Overall, RZD's coal loading for May reached 28 million tons, up 4.7% from the previous year. Out of this total, 16.5 million tons were designated for international clients, highlighting the increasing global demand for Russian coal.
