Russia's Grain Export Surge Surprises Analysts

In June 2026, Russian agricultural producers significantly boosted their grain transport via rail, reaching 1.8 million tons. This figure marks a remarkable 41% increase compared to the same month last year. Of this total, 120,000 tons were loaded into containers, equivalent to 8,000 TEUs, showcasing an impressive growth of 2.4 times. Export shipments of grain in June amounted to 994,000 tons, reflecting a more than 2.5-fold increase from 2025's figures. Notably, 518,000 tons were directed to ports, representing a 3.5-fold increase, indicating a growing interest in Russian agricultural products on the international market. The bulk of these shipments originated through southern ports, which accounted for 431,000 tons—up 3.6 times from the previous year. Furthermore, the North-Western ports also experienced growth, handling 30,000 tons of grain, reflecting an increase of 1.6 times. These statistics underscore the trend of Russia's sustainable development in export capabilities within the agricultural sector, despite the challenges posed by the global economy.
