RZD Sees 1.9% Increase in Container Transport for 2026
In the first half of 2026, Russian Railways (RZD) showcased consistent growth in container transportation, recording a 1.9% increase compared to the same period last year. Over three million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) were transported within the first five months, highlighting the buoyancy in the country’s logistics sector. The domestic transport sector experienced a modest decline of 3.5%, amounting to 1.2 million containers. In contrast, the import segment thrived with a 17.5% increase, reaching 815,000 containers, signaling a rise in foreign goods consumption and trade activities. Export figures, however, saw a slight reduction of 2.5%, totaling 737,900 containers, potentially reflecting shifts in international markets. The overall volume of loaded containers reached approximately 2.35 million TEUs, marking a 4% growth year-on-year. Import activity led this segment with 727,500 TEUs, while the export component stood at 701,400 TEUs, which showed minor decreases, confirming the current complexities of overseas trade.
