New EU Rules Impact Small Parcel Imports

New EU Rules Impact Small Parcel Imports
Starting July 1, 2026, the European Union has implemented a revised customs framework affecting small parcel imports. This initiative creates challenges for e-commerce merchants and logistics providers who must now adjust their operations to comply with the new regulations. As a result of this legislation, all goods valued below 150 euros are subject to customs duties, posing risks to business models that rely on competitive low pricing. The European Council finalized this legislation in February to tackle issues related to tariff equity, protecting domestic manufacturers, and maintaining product safety. This move mirrors recent actions taken by the U.S. government, highlighting a global shift toward more stringent oversight of low-cost imports from abroad. Under the new rules, sellers within the EU will need to enhance their shipping data submissions. This change will not only affect logistics efficiency but could also lead to increased consumer prices, potentially resulting in decreased sales for numerous online retailers.
