Rail Freight Increases as RZD Embraces Collaboration

Recent figures reveal that Russian Railways (RZD) saw a modest 1% rise in cargo volume in June, reaching 90.2 million tons. However, according to RZD's Deputy Head Irina Magnushevskaya, this uptick should not be seen as a rivalry between rail and water transport. Instead, it highlights the need for effective multimodal logistics solutions tailored to customer demands. At the recent 'River' forum in Cheboksary, Magnushevskaya emphasized the importance of integrating rail and water transport to create highly efficient supply chains. She pointed out that collaborative efforts between these sectors, especially in large construction projects, could enhance efficiency and reduce costs significantly. For instance, the unified logistics model used for the M-12 highway construction allowed for streamlined delivery of construction materials. Thus, the push for cooperation among different modes of transport is paving the way for new business opportunities, enabling faster and more cost-effective cargo delivery.
