Record Coal Export Loading Achieved by RZhD in May
May 2026 marks a significant milestone for RZhD, with the shipment of 10.1 million tonnes of coal destined for export in the eastern direction. This figure reflects a 4.9% increase compared to the same period last year. Remarkably, the total is also 43.3% higher than ten years ago, and nearly double the amount seen in May 2011. This surge illustrates a robust demand for Russian coal in international markets, particularly as global energy policies evolve. Additionally, when considering domestic transport via the BAM and Trans-Siberian routes, the total coal shipment to the east reached 13.2 million tonnes, a notable 2.4% rise from May 2025. This record level for the month highlights the operational efficiency of RZhD’s logistics network in managing increasing freight volumes. Overall, RZhD reported a total coal loading of 28 million tonnes in May 2026, which is a 4.7% increase over May 2025. Out of this total, 16.5 million tonnes were allocated for export. These results underscore the crucial role of RZhD in maintaining the resilience and competitiveness of the national coal industry.
